Wallett questions, need assitance
« on: January 27, 2014, 10:39:29 AM »

Recently I backed up my wallet on a windows machine that later crashed.  I have created a new windows computer and wish to import my backed up wallet into the new machine.  How do I do this?  I believe it can be done through the console window but I don't know anything else.

Does anyone know the commands and such to do this?

I'm not exactly sure what you want to do. Do you want to continue using the old wallet? In that case just put the "wallet.dat" file back in the folder and it'll work. If you want to use a new wallet and just transfer the coins over, you could just send them from the old wallet to the new wallet's address.

If you really wanted to sweep your old wallet, then you have to dump your private key from the old wallet and import it into the new wallet. If you goto the console window (Help->Debugging), you can just find the commands listed by typing help.

Before doing any of this, pls make a second backup copy of your wallet.dat file from your old machine.

OK, once you've done that....

Run your Dogecoin program on your new computer. Once it has synced (downloaded all the blocks), close the program down.  Then find your Dogecoin folder on the new computer as follows:

Click your windows "Start" button

In the "Search programs and files" box type:

then press your enter key

You should then have an explorer window start up .  Within the explorer window you should find your Dogecoin folder.   Click to open the folder.

Once you're in the Dogecoin folder you can copy your wallet.dat file from your old machine to replace the wallet.dat in you Dogecoin folder on your new machine.

Start up your Dogecoin program and your Doges should be loyally waiting there.

If this helps anyone, it would be great if you would give my pool a try and find some more Doges to join your pack :)
