Ally McCoist's row with the Dundee chairman is over the fee for Charlie Telfer
Tannadice supremo Thompson was left seething after being ordered to pay £204,000 for Telfer by an SPFL tribunal.

Thompson described the level of compensation United will have to shell out for the 19-year-old former Rangers youngster, who had been at Ibrox for 10 years, as “ridiculously prohibitive”.

Telfer joined United in June after turning Arsenal jersey 2015 down a new contract Authentic Manchester united jersey at Rangers.

McCoist can’t understand why Thompson is complaining because he knew the rules before landing Telfer on freedom of contract.

McCoist said: “Stephen and Dundee United decided to sign Charlie, which was well within their rights, but they knew the rules before they did that.

We feel we have got what we deserved for the education for Charlie over the last 10 years or so

“And now they are having a moan about the rules. I’m not necessarily sure that should be the case. The rule hasn’t changed since United went and got Charlie.

“We feel we have got what we deserved for the education for Charlie over the last 10 years or so. But I can understand Dundee United’s disappointment in it.”

McCoist insists Telfer would have been given a chance this season had he stayed at Ibrox.

And he defended the Chelsea jersey 2014 2015 club’s policy on introducing young players into the first team.

He said: “It’s a lot easier for youngsters to break into teams outwith the Old Firm.

“One of the biggest things about that is the pressure to get a victory. It isn’t as great at other clubs as it is at the Old Firm. That is one of the factors rightly or wrongly. We have had lots of young boys break into our team in recent years.

“In an ideal world, if I could field 11 players from Murray Park that would be the dream scenario.

“We all know that’s not going to happen, but that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t take the responsibility of Real Madrid James jersey producing young talent as seriously as we have always done and that will always be the case.”

A host of English top-flight clubs and Blackburn Rovers have been linked with moves for Lewis Macleod.

But McCoist hopes to hang onto the talented youngster.

He said: “It goes without saying that I understand the economics of the whole situation, but I wouldn’t be too keen on losing one of our better younger players.”

Meanwhile, Rangers have cancelled their staff Christmas party.

And McCoist admits there isn’t much cause for celebration following recent job losses among administration staff at the Ibrox club.

He said: “I can understand why there are very few people within our staff who feel like having a Christmas party, with the redundancies and jobs losses we’ve had.

“My overriding feeling, particularly just now, is genuine feelings of concern and sadness that a lot of people have lost their jobs, particularly at this time of year.”
