Issue with cgminer
« on: January 27, 2014, 11:48:38 AM »
I'm running cgminer 3.6.0 (later versions will not detect my video cards) on Windows 7, and while it's mining just fine, I have issues with disabling GPU's.

It picks up both my HD 7850 and my A8-6600K's APU, and it mines successfully on both.  However, when I want to game, I go into the GPU menu and disable the 7850, and while it does disable, GPUz reports that VRAM usage does not decline.  Normally on the desktop dedicated usage is 10MB or less, but with cgminer running with the card disabled, it's still at 500+, where it sits while mining.  This obviously makes some games run like crap that need the entire 1GB the card has available.

I'd like to continue mining on the APU, as in spite of the shared memory it doesn't seem to have an effect on CPU performance, but as it stands now I have to quit cgminer to be able to free up the memory on the 7850.

Anyone have a solution to free the VRAM when disabling a card?

I haven't tried this on my dual card rig (got many other things to do) but apparently it has been tried here:
Hope that helps.
