5x R9 280x doesnt work (win8)
« on: January 09, 2014, 11:38:48 AM »
Hello all. I need help to configurated my new mining rig with 5 GPUs ala R9 280x.

Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0
AMD Sempron 145
5x Sapphire R9 280x Dual-X
Windows 8
2 GB Ram

If use 5 GPUs, Windows can only see 4 GPUs,
If i use 4 GPUs, Windows is seeing only 2 GPU's.

I downgradet AMD Catalyst to 12.6, without happy end. (Now 13.12).
AMD SDK 2.9

Do i must change some Bios settings?

Pls help >.<

To all guys who created a huge mining rig with 5 GPUS or more, i found a solution in another forum (but i forget to copy the link xD )

uninstall Catalyst, reboot, install catalyst 12.6, reboot, install newest catalyst (without uninstall 12.6), reboot. After that Windows recognized that i got 5 GPUs.

hi.

sure, but my Riglayout is pre-alpha :D

i use 5 PCIe 1x to 16x powered Risers. If my next pakage arrive, i will try 8x to 8x Risers in 16x Slot and will pimp then to powered. I use an Enermax 1500 PSU.

If have someone advices how i can configure them (yaya, i know "litecoin hardware comparison) let me know pls.
As u see, all Cards are the same but they wont work as the same. Some Card is jumping to 900 and is going sick, another is slow like a turtle with 450 khs.
I knew it costs time to configurate them, but intelligent advices would be nice.

Your problem might be with the power supply, you may not have enough power and it is throttling down some cards

see this site for an example, x5

you need more ram, each gpu needs a certain amount of memory.

Not true you just need 4GB to run Windows 8.1. and you probably didn't instal the video driver per card correctly.

Running 5 cards with 4gb of ram in Win 8.1 without problems. Driver is set for all same card's by default, o need to do any extra install "per card". No extra tuning was needed, apart manual pimp of Cgminer.conf . Must be issue with MOBO - my didn't liked powered riser in PCI-E slot-0 . Was kicking of GPU and acting weirdo. Fixed by swapping to non powered riser.

Gl with making it work, as it should be!

To correctly install all of the graphics cards you must first install the drivers for the one in the first Pci slot then restart and move down the line.
This is what I have done for countless builds.
